Kiana James def. Ivy NileJames didn't appear on the Raw following her call-up, but she did appear in a backstage segment with Adam Pearce this week. I know she has a businesswoman gimmick, but I have no interest in seeing her as Pearce's assistant. I still think she was called up prematurely, but putting her in the ring where she can continue to improve makes more sense. It was noted on commentary here that Nile has beaten James twice in the past in NXT but that James gave Nile has last televised singles loss on NXT prior to her call-up. Thus, they have that built-up chemistry from their previous encounters and this ended up being decent.

Mike Orlando and The Cheese def. The Heavenly Butterflies in a Crockett Cup Play-In MatchThese teams are completely new to the NWA audience (myself included) and received no formal introduction. I know the NWA has working relationship with various independent promotions and that's cool, but there's no reason to care about these new faces unless they stick around. The match itself was decent, but my biggest takeaway was that these are two goof teams and aren't to be taken seriously. Making it a Crockett Cup play-in match at least gave it some significance.
World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest Confronted Drew McIntyreMcIntyre setting his sights back on the World Heavyweight Championship this soon is an interesting development. I thought this might happen a little closer to Clash at the Castle considering it's in McIntyre's home country of Scotland, but it looks like they're going to this match for King and Queen of the Ring. Plus, whatever happened to what was being teased with McIntyre and Sheamus? This was a solid segment with good mic work from both men.
Trent Beretta def. Dalton Castle by Referee StoppageBeretta is fresh off a loss to Orange Cassidy on Wednesday's Dynamite, so this served as a rebound win for him to get him back on track. I don't know that it did much to boost his credibility since Castle rarely ever appears on AEW TV, but it's better than nothing, I suppose. It was a quality contest and having him win by referee stoppage was a nice touch. Do we get the Beretta vs. Cassidy rematch at Double or Nothing?
