Uriah Connors def. Cutler JamesI figured this would be where James (who I was impressed by on WWE: Next Gen) would pick up his first televised win, but no such luck. He lost to a dude who comes off as equally generic in Connors. Both guys are perfectly passable in the ring and have proven they can hold their own, but they need that extra something to make them stand out (and James' "next door neighbor" clearly is not cutting it). There wasn't anything too special about this, but it was a well-worked match.

Piper Niven and Chelsea Green Attacked WWE Women's Champion Bayley During Nia Jax's CoronationAs I've already said, I honestly don't hate the idea of Jax being Queen of the Ring. She'll play the role well, but I do wonder how WWE intends to keep her busy until she gets her title shot at SummerSlam. Niven and Green attacking Bayley set up the tag team match for later in the night, so although there was nothing out of the ordinary about this segment, it effectively built toward two different title defenses for Bayley that are on the horizon.
Konosuke Takeshita def. Penta El Zero Miedo in an AEW TNT Championship Eliminator MatchAEW will sometimes (but not always) refer to non-title matches as Eliminators. They'll also refer to certain tournament matches as Eliminators, too. This was a qualifying match for the TNT title Ladder match at Forbidden Door, yet it was also referred to as an Eliminator. This company can be so damn confusing. However, the match itself was great. They were given an ample amount of time and worked really well together. I'd love to see Takeshita become the TNT champ, but I know it'll be Jack Perry.
Chris Bey def. Ace AustinABC lost their tag team match with Speedball Mountain a few weeks ago where they would have faced each other for a shot at the TNA X-Division Championship the following week had they won. They didn't win, but they faced each other, anyway. It was a friendly competition and it wasn't as if seeds were planted for a betrayal, but they could certainly head in that direction eventually. This was the entertaining opener you'd expect from them. They're still owed a rematch for the TNA World Tag Team Championship, so they do split up, it would likely be after that.
